Puerto Rico amateur boxing - Boxeo PR: September 2015

Natasha Cantero is 17 years old, and has been an amateur boxer for two years. I can describe her as being very kind, happy, loving and grateful to God for all of her blessings.

She is currently completing the 12^th grade at Miguel Such Vocational High School where she specializes in a cosmetology workshop. When she finishes her senior year of high school, her goal is to enter the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus and explore the field of architecture. This does not mean that Natasha doesn’t take her boxing training and fighting very seriously. This young lady is well rounded in education, fitness, and community involvement.

Her interest to practice boxing was born from a billboard that was high above the town of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She didn’t really know what she was getting into, but she decided to speak with the coach and start training anyways. There was one person in Natasha’s life who inspired her even more to continue practicing the sport of boxing. That person is now a professional boxer Ryan Pino. The island is rich with boxing talent, and amateur women’s boxing in Puerto Rico has made recent history in the Olympics. In the very near future, Cantero is planning to reach the Olympics with the national team to represent Puerto Rico with dignity in the international games.

"My philosophy of life is to follow the ways of God, because without Him nothing is possible."Cantero also expressed to never surrender or give up, because that could be the day when you emerge victorious. After speaking with Cantero, I certainly do not think she can participate in another sport, because boxing is her passion and it’s a sport that requires the ultimate discipline.
